I recently made friends with a Chinese guy after joining his live on Rednote. He told me about his work as an army guy (I know nothing about military related stuff), and after asking some questions he had to use translate to clarify that the proper term for what he does in English is “mercenary”. After asking him more about it and also searching the Internet, I still don’t really understand the concept. Is it like an evil thing? Assassin, hitman? How are they allowed to work for other countries? How do they get hired?
